ATI Athletic Trainers Recognize Emergency Preparedness Month

No one understands being prepared for an emergency more than our ATI Worksite Solutions (AWS) Early Intervention Specialists (EIS) and Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers. Learn more about how our Sports Medicine teams are readying themselves for the school year ahead and how our AWS Early Intervention Specialists are using their knowledge to bring big safety wins to our partnering worksites.

Emergency Preparedness in Sports Medicine

Throughout our entire footprint, our Sports Medicine teams met to discuss best practices, reconnect with fellow team members, and align on new initiatives, including developing Emergency Action Plans (EAP) in accordance with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s (NATA) new position statement on EAPs

“Our outreach ATs are required to assist all of our schools with an EAP,” Director of Sports Medicine Jason Pequette said. “It is our priority that all our Athletic Trainers are aligned with the position statement presented by the NATA and use it as a guideline when assisting in developing the EAP for our affiliates. Ultimately, it has to be approved, adopted into policy, and enforced by the school. Still, our role in the EAP’s development and implementation is only part of our action plan to actively prepare our ATs to serve our partnering schools and communities.”

An Injury Prevention Win

For our ATI Worksite Solutions team members, safety and emergency preparedness are always top of mind. Our AWS team members are well-versed in their worksite’s EAP and take an active role in not only reacting to emergencies but also preventing them daily.

For Early Intervention Specialist Laarni Mulvey, preparation met opportunity at her worksite in Shorewood, IL. As a two year-veteran at the site, she played a pivotal role in the worksite’s celebration of its first year without a recordable injury.

“This remarkable achievement of reaching a full year without a recordable injury is an extraordinary testament to Laarni’s unparalleled expertise and dedication in early intervention and injury prevention,” AWS Industry Manager Michael Martin said. “Her profound commitment to empathetic and supportive care, combined with her exemplary collaboration skills, has fostered trust and rapport among team members and significantly elevated the program’s effectiveness.”

Preventive Care Fit for Kings

EISs Morris Reed and Erika Lopez are other AWS team members who demonstrate exceptional skills in early intervention and injury prevention services. As members of the their worksite in Georgia, Morris has been with ATI for the past two years while Erika has been there for one. In that short time, they’ve proven to be instrumental team members, being dubbed “the shortstops” of their worksite’s Health and Safety team. Their client site recently celebrated the lowest incident rate in the company’s history and lowered the Recordable Injury Rate by 25% from the previous year.

“Morris has a contagious positive energy that makes the people around him feel good. Without a doubt, it is one of the reasons he is so successful in collaborating with his worksite’s employees and delivering early intervention and preventive care,” AWS Industry Manager Kelly Van Kampen said. “He continually drives efforts to improve the health, wellness, and culture of the Employee Health Support program. But his experience as a provider and his ability to connect and inspire people truly contribute to his and his worksite’s program’s success.”

Kelly echoed similar sentiments about Erika’s contributions and added: “Erika’s passionate about supporting each employee on their health and wellness journey. Her ability to build trust with those at her worksite has encouraged a culture of early reporting and has greatly contributed to the program’s success. Also, she is fluent in Spanish and supports the LatinX community at her site, even implementing a Latin fusion cardio class to help meet their wellness needs.”

All in all, Morris and Erika have proven to be a dream team, creating opportunities for team members to improve their health literacy and increase their overall well-being while preventing injury.
