Advocacy for Alabama Athletic Trainers Pays Off

Education is the foundation of any career, but rising costs within our society present a challenge for many healthcare professionals, including Athletic Trainers (AT). Within many school and worksite settings, Athletic Trainers are the first point of contact in many health-related situations and often the bridge to athletes, workers, and community members seeking further care. Their role within the communities they serve is essential, and as a result of advocacy efforts, legislators in the state of Alabama are recently passed HB288 to Governor Kay Ivey’s desk for signing to provide loan assistance for Alabama Athletic Trainers.

Embracing the Next Step in Leadership

Recently promoted Multisite Clinic Director (MSCD) Vidit Atul Phanse has learned that navigating the transition from running a single clinic to multiple locations has presented its challenges, but it is ultimately a rewarding experience.

Using Telehealth to Increase Awareness for Dance Therapy

Telerehab Physical Therapist Catherine Vargo is taking her mission to help dancers out of the studio and moving it online. Still in her first year at ATI as a telerehab PT, Catherine brought her talents as a dance physical therapist to ATI to expand access for those who express their art through movement.

A former dancer, Catherine decided to pursue physical therapy after being treated for an injury. “The PTs I worked with were good, but they didn’t ‘get it,'” Catherine explained. “I knew there had to be people that ‘got it’ like there are therapists who understand football, basketball, or soccer. That’s why before Day One, I have always told others I wanted to be a PT that takes care of dancers.”

Offering Continuous Education Along Your Career Path

Our Clinical Excellence team offers a variety of CEUs to assist our team members with maintaining their license and expanding their general knowledge base. These courses include a wide range of topics, such as implicit bias in healthcare, ACL repair, Blood Flow Restriction, dance medicine, and much more. “We have done 30 courses so far in 2025,” Clinical Development Program Lead Jacqueline Davenport explained when asked about ATI’s internal CEU initiative, “and have 80 planned for the remainder of the year.”

Patients Receive Additional Support Through Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM)

April 2025, ATI Physical Therapy rolled out its Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) across its 900-plus clinic footprint. RTM is an additional service line that expands the patient’s clinical care team as they work towards their therapy goals. It provides seamless communication between patients and a licensed clinician to address questions or concerns and receive additional guidance on home exercises. It also gives the patient added support, allowing the clinician to encourage and celebrate with them as they work through the stages of their recovery.

Advocating for the PT Profession and our Patients

ATI Physical Therapy continues to be a voice for change in the physical therapy industry to support our clinicians and patients. This spring, CEO Sharon Vitti continued ATI’s advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. She and other leaders in the industry, including those from the Alliance for Physical Therapy Quality and Innovation (APTQI), met on Capitol with Representative Buddy Carter, Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee. There, they discussed strategies to reduce fall rates among seniors and improve patient safety. However, the efforts do not stop on Capitol Hill. Our teams have also opened their doors to lawmakers for them to saw firsthand how PT can improve and impact lives.

Missouri native Physical Therapist Brad Lohbeck started with a travel PT agency shortly after graduation. What started as a travel opportunity in South Carolina became an 8,000-mile adventure with ATI and its Explore program.

Work continues in Washington, D.C., to pass the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act. Originally proposed in the spring of 2024, the SAFE Act would include a fall risk assessment by a physical or occupational therapist as part of a Medicare beneficiary’s annual wellness visit.
