APTQI 

Work continues in Washington, D.C., to pass the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act. Originally proposed in the spring of 2024, the SAFE Act would include a fall risk assessment by a physical or occupational therapist as part of a Medicare beneficiary’s annual wellness visit.

Big APTA Wins in Michigan and Arizona 

A Win for Hybrid Care in Michigan 

The APTA Michigan reported a record win in telehealth advancement. As a result of the organization’s advocacy efforts, healthcare professionals in Michigan now have reimbursement parity for telemedicine and in-person office visits. In addition, insurers cannot dictate where patients receive care unless they are contractually bound or specific care is deemed necessary by a referring health care professional. It is a big win for patients and clinicians as virtual and hybrid care create greater access to treatment, and telehealth continues to expand in the physical therapy field.

Understanding MIPS: Why it’s Important for Providers and Patients 

ATI Physical Therapy recently announced its fifth consecutive year, earning an “Exceptional” rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). The rating is a testament to the entire organization’s dedication to providing quality patient care while achieving its purpose of making every life an active life. However, the MIPS rating is more than accolades for clinicians. It was designed to reward Medicare providers for high-quality patient care and outcomes with the aim of lowering healthcare costs.

Congratulations to Early Intervention Specialist Jane (Miraglia) McClean on receiving the National Athletics Trainers’ Association (NATA) William T. Griffin Award for Outstanding Leadership. 

Recipients of the Griffin Award must reflect and possess leadership qualities, including motivating colleagues and leaders to increase political involvement, demonstrating forward thinking in organizing a legislative or grassroots campaign, and taking the initiative to maximize advocacy efforts.

From September 13-18, members from our executive leadership team were joined by members of our Clinical Excellence team for the annual Orthopaedic Summit Evolving Techniques conference in Las Vegas, NV. While CEO Sharon Vitti spoke with a panel on Investor Day, CGO Scott Gregerson joined HOPCo’s Tom Harte onstage for a discussion on value-based care. ATI’s Clinical Excellence team members were also present, delivering new research on various topics and showcasing our thought leadership in the PT industry.
