From Student Observation to Clinic Director: Katie Ecklund Finds…

At ATI, we seek bright, tenacious individuals who are open to possibilities. We pride ourselves on trailblazing career paths for our providers, no matter what road they may travel. Clinic Director Katie Ecklund set out on her own path, starting as a student observer with ATI while at university and continually finding her way back to one of our clinics as a newly designated Clinic Director.

Why did you choose ATI as a student observer?

I did student observation for my bachelor’s program at Pacific Lutheran University. The university sets up observations. I was familiar with the name ATI at the time but never had an experience with the company at that time.

How did that time with ATI as a student influence your career path?

I have wanted to pursue physical therapy as a career since I was in high school, being inspired by a friend who was in a boating accident and paralyzed from his chest down. ATI helped solidify my career path by demonstrating a friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient work environment for me to help others.

When did you officially start at ATI?

I officially started at ATI in November of 2020 during the pandemic.

How long have you been with ATI?

I have been with ATI for four and a half years. I have worked at multiple locations, starting at Kent – Lake Meridian, then transferring to Gig Harbor/University Place, then full-time at University Place, and eventually becoming the Clinic Director at the Lakewood, WA, location.

Why did you choose ATI?

I chose ATI because of the growth opportunities the company has offered me. I started as a new grad PTA with little to no experience. Throughout the years, I have taken multiple classes and honed my skills through experience and mentorship. Two and a half years ago, I met my mentor, MSCD Thomas “Catch” Hurst, who has taught and inspired me to not only be the best clinician I can be but also the best Director I can be.

What are you most excited about in your new role as Clinic Director?

As a clinic director, I am most excited to help elevate my clinic and staff to drive patient results and improve patients’ quality of life. I hope to mentor young PTAs to inspire others, just as my mentor did for me.

Any fun facts?

I reside in University Place, WA, where I am a “Cat Mom” to a black cat named Shadow and a tuxedo cat named James Bond. I was a volleyball athlete for ten years and then coached high school and club volleyball for three years. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and reading
