Advocating for the PT Profession

As part of our unwavering commitment to our patients and clinicians, ATI partnered to found the Alliance for Physical Therapy Quality and Innovation (APTQI) in 2014 and continues serving as a board member with other outpatient therapy companies. These partnerships allow ATI to leverage our size with other like-minded companies to advocate for reimbursement, changes in authorization/credentialing, state board regulations, and other essential factors that influence industry progress. In April, CEO Sharon Vitti traveled to Washington, D.C., with members of APTA and APTQI to advocate for the SAFE and REDUCE Acts to improve PT access and reimbursement.

Creating Direct Access and Care Through ONE ATI

In Q1 of 2023, our Sports Medicine team was hard at work piloting the “One ATI Care Pathway.” It was an opportunity to empower our Athletic Trainers to use their expertise as MSK experts and to emphasize what Physical Therapists can do as primary care providers.

Even in the program’s early stages, it showed promise. Over 150 athletes benefitted from the care pathway at the onset, leading to it becoming a permanent fixture in August of 2023.

The ATI and Skill Bridge Partnership Takes Flight

Summerville, S.C. In 2023, ATI’s Talent Management team began its partnership with DOD Skill Bridge program, creating opportunities for service members to gain valuable work experience with organization during their last 180 days of service. “Standing up the Skill Bridge program gives ATI the opportunity to capitalize on the outstanding talent that leaves the military every year,” Military Recruiting Manager Bobby Evans said. “When Operations Support Specialist (OSS) Cardarius Stevens applied for the internship role to develop his interest in health, fitness, and physical therapy, we knew he was a perfect match for our program.”

ATI Foundation Provides for a King

Expanding Access for PT Students

The Learning and Development team is excited to announce it is expanding its sports and orthopedic residency programs. “This is a real opportunity for us to connect with students, help them develop their clinical skills and influence the next era of physical therapists,” Senior Director of Learning and Development Tom Denninger said. “And we are fortunate to have Jackie Davenport, who already serves as the Orthopedic Residency Director, expand her role to oversee the Sports Residency as well.”

ATI Sports Medicine assists healthcare professionals understand student-athlete health…

This spring, The British Journal of Sports Medicine posted a blog about a study examining the relationship between higher concussion rates in high school athletes post-COVID-19 infection. The study was initiated after sports physicians anecdotally noticed athletes who returned to sport post-COVID infection were three times more susceptible to concussion.

In April, Senior Vice President of Clinical Excellence Dr. Chuck Thigpen sat down with Leo Morgenstern from Just Baseball to discuss pitcher arm health as Major League Baseball ushered in its new pitch clock rule in the article, “Dr. Chuck Thigpen on Arm Health in the Age of the Pitch Clock.” The pair discussed concerns over player adaptation and potential risk for injury, especially for relief and middle-relief pitchers who experience less recovery time than starting pitchers.
