ATI Physical Therapy Worksite Solutions and iMSKA Partner with…
At ATI Worksite Solutions (AWS), a division of ATI Physical Therapy, we have known the long-term impact our Athletic Trainers in the workplace have on employee health. Now, a new collaboration between Indiana State University’s Athletic Training Department and ATI Worksite Solutions, along with its partner Institute for Musculoskeletal Advancement (iMSKA), is creating that same awareness to better prepare future healthcare professionals to meet the demands of occupational and industrial health. This new partnership looks to bridge a gap by launching its Workplace Injury Prevention Certificate Program, designed to equip future health professionals with proactive musculoskeletal (MSK) care strategies.
The initiative builds on the expertise of ATI Worksite Solutions—a national leader in injury prevention, ergonomics, early MSK intervention, and occupational health—and iMSKA, ATI’s research institute established in 2024 to advance evidence-based practices in MSK care. Together, these organizations are aligning academic training with real-world employer needs, preparing students to reduce workplace risks and improve population MSK health.
The certificate curriculum emphasizes the identification of biomechanical, ergonomic, and behavioral risk factors that contribute to MSK disorders (MSDs). Participants will also learn how to engage workplace stakeholders and implement practices that align with industry standards while promoting a culture of safety.
“The goal is to prepare athletic training students and other health professionals to prevent musculoskeletal injuries in occupational settings proactively,” Stacy Bierce, PT, ATC, and Director of Organizational Development at ATI, said. “Through hands-on training and evidence-based coursework, students will gain the tools they need to identify risks, conduct minor ergonomic assessments, and collaborate with employers to improve worker safety and health outcomes.”
As the healthcare landscape continues to shift, there are greater opportunities for Athletic Trainers beyond traditional sports settings. This program reflects that shift, showcasing a need for healthcare workers who understand both clinical care and workplace injury prevention.
“This certificate not only supports our students’ career growth,” said Tim Demchak, PhD, ATC, GTS, Program Director of Indiana State’s MSAT program, “but also addresses a growing national need for injury-prevention professionals who can make an immediate impact across industries.”
Graduates of the program will be well-positioned to expand their professional expertise and pursue careers in workplace wellness, occupational health, and injury prevention. iMSKA plans to expand the program in partnership with additional universities across the nation.
